Meet the team: Julian Bell

Julian is an active duty CWO4 in the US Coast Guard, currently stationed in Santa Barbara, CA. Julian joined the Coast Guard in 2003 and had his own personal experience with sexual assault early on in his career. He wanted to give back, and chose to sign up to be a USCG Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAPRR VA) in 2023. He has made it his personal mission to help those in need throughout the service, and also helped to create another nonprofit called Safe Waters, which is a peer support group for survivors, as well as an online personal healing space for survivors, called Sailor’s Disgrace. He has been supporting many initiatives through these groups, and testified in 2024 for the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Hearing for Coast Guard Whistleblowers on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment.

In his free time, he enjoys being with his wife and sons, in the water (surfing, swimming, free diving) and traveling.
